Second Balkan War(1913)
Romania gains Southern Dobruja from Bulgaria
Battles of the Second Balkan War
Romania entered the Second Balkan War with a massive advance south, meeting minimal resistance from an exhausted Bulgaria.
Romanian forces crossed the Danube at Bechet-Oryahovo, establishing the first bridgehead on Bulgarian soil.
Romanian 5th Corps crossed the Danube at Silistra unopposed, occupying the Tutrakan–Balchik line and securing Southern Dobruja without a shot fired.
Romanian forces occupied the town of Ferdinand (now Montana) as part of the advance toward Sofia.
The main Romanian army crossed into Bulgaria and advanced to the outskirts of Sofia. Romanian cavalry reached Vrazhdebna and Orlandovtsi — just 11 km and 4 km respectively from the city center — forcing Bulgaria to request an armistice.
Romanian forces advanced to within 50 km of Sofia before an armistice was declared.
