One of Eastern Europe's most enduring anti-communist partisan groups, active for nine years in the Nucșoara area of the Făgăraș Mountains. The group included Toma's brother Petre Arnăuțoiu, Maria Plop (who gave birth to Toma's child in a mountain cave), and Elisabeta Rizea (civilian supporter). Betrayed by a blackmailed schoolmate who drugged them during a supply run.

Toma Arnăuțoiu (1921–1959) was a Romanian military officer who led a small group of anti-communist resistance fighters in the Southern Carpathian foothills between 1949 and 1958, forming one of the most enduring resistance groups in Eastern Europe. Operating from the mountains near Nucșoara with support from local villagers, the group evaded capture for nine years before being betrayed and arrested in May 1958. Arnăuțoiu was executed by firing squad at Jilava Prison in July 1959 alongside fourteen villagers who had supplied the partisans.
