Background

Romania's Transylvanian offensive had failed. Falkenhayn's 9th Army pushed through the Carpathians while Mackensen invaded from Bulgaria, creating a strategic pincer threatening to trap the entire Romanian army before Bucharest.

The Battle of the Argeș was the last confrontation of the Romanian campaign in 1916, culminating in the decisive victory of the Central Powers and the occupation of the city of Bucharest on December 6, 1916.

The defeat in the Battle of the Argeș-Neajlov resulted in the Central Powers capturing Bucharest on December 6, 1916. The Romanian army and government were forced to retreat to Moldavia, establishing a new capital at Iași. Two-thirds of Romania's territory fell under occupation.
