The Event

Among first cities to join after Timișoara. Minimal resistance from Securitate.

Following solidarity protests inspired by events in Timișoara, armed clashes erupted in Lugoj in December 1989. Revolutionary forces, supported by defecting army units, confronted a hastily defending force of Securitate loyalists. The confrontation, occurring across urban terrain amidst cold Banat plains (-2 până la 3°C), lasted two days. Revolutionary forces secured a victory with minimal resistance, marking Lugoj as one of the first cities to join the revolution and demonstrating a regional domino effect.
