Background

Wallachia chafed under the Regulamentul Organic regime imposed after 1829 Russian intervention. The 1848 revolutions in Paris, Vienna, and Budapest provided the spark for Romanian liberals.

Revolutionary proclamation that established a provisional government and issued the liberal constitution of Wallachia.

Within days, Domnitorul Bibescu accepted the program under popular pressure. He abdicated June 25; a provisional government governed until Ottoman suppression in September.
