Background
Tudor Vladimirescu had been arrested and executed by Eterist officers suspicious of his negotiations with the Ottomans. Without his unifying leadership, the 8,000-strong pandur army fragmented rapidly. Individual columns attempted to melt back into the countryside as Ottoman punitive columns advanced.

The two-day engagement saw the Pandurs, facing a larger Ottoman contingent, adopt a withdrawal posture. Ultimately, the Ottoman force secured victory, contributing to the broader disintegration of the uprising.
