During the Ottoman Interregnum of 1404, Wallachian forces under Mircea I seized Dobruja. Exploiting a power vacuum, Mircea’s troops, numbering an unknown amount, occupied the Dobruja steppes and Danube delta. Ottoman pretender forces attempted flanking maneuvers, but were met with a hasty defense. After three days of fighting, Wallachia secured the region, extending its territory to its greatest historical extent.
